Mother’s Day Craft: World’s Best Grandma Medal

Another month and another occasion drawing nearer… this time it’s one of my favourites- Mother’s Day! I love Mother’s Day as it’s the start of spring, the days are starting to feel a bit brighter, flowers are starting to show their faces, and it’s a day to give your mum a good spoiling. As a mum myself I love getting spoilt too! As Lily and I have discovered a love for all things arts and crafts I decided this year to MAKE my mum’s presents rather than buy them. Plus what Grandma doesn’t adore a homemade gift from their darling […]

Terrible Twos & Tantrums: 1 strop, 2 strops, 3 strops, more!

Argh! The terrible twos have come late to the party, and bit us on the bum! Or maybe it’s early threenager: Lily will be 3 in May. Up until now, excluding about 3 months some time between the age of 18 months and 2 when she decided to throw tantrum after tantrum about the smallest of things, she has always been a pretty relaxed little thing. I think that tricky blip was due to her suddenly realising that she was this independent person. She wanted to do her own thing, and did not want to be told no. Luckily for us that […]

DECHOX with the British Heart Foundation: Day One

Day One …DAY ONE, I need to do 31 days of this!! Help!!   I decided to sign up to give up chocolate for the month of March to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. It’s a great cause so if I can even raise £10 towards helping it I’ll be pleased I did something. I thought that just cutting out chocolate would be relatively easy.. after all I can still have (chocolate free) cake, crisps, all sorts of goodies. But it’s not chocolate!! I’ve already had a couple of sponsers so I definitely can’t bail out.. I would […]

3 In The Bed And The Little One Said… Part Three

You may remember a couple of my previous posts: 3 In The Bed… Part 1 and Part 2. Well the issue of nighttime has come back to light lately. Yet again we are trying to get Lily to sleep through in her own bed. Background The sleeping issue: When Lily reached a year old I decided to stop all night feeds, however the knock on effect of this was that she stopped settling at night when she woke up. Whereas before I would feed her at midnight and it would get her sleeping through until morning, since cutting that feed she would wake up and […]

12 Things I Wish I’d Known Before Having A Baby

Preparing to be a new mum is a mixture of excitement and nervousness. With so much needed to prepare for your new bundle of joy it can be overwhelming. People start giving advice before the baby’s even been born- do this, don’t do that. It all becomes a bit confusing. With this in mind I have written a list of things I wished I’d been told before I had Lily. I’m sure there’s loads more things it would have been good to know, but these are the main ones. I’d love to hear other mum’s words of wisdom in the […]

Mum Guilt- What is it & Why do we get it?

Mum guilt. We all suffer it, mine hits me with a good wallop in the evenings usually. Just as I sit down to relax the little niggles start to creep in: “Was I a good mum today?” “I shouldn’t have shouted earlier.” “Lily really should eat more veg, I’m going to start planning her meals better.” “Is she getting enough social engagement with other kids? Maybe I should start taking her to more groups.” I could go on and on to be honest. Mum guilt- what a b***h. But what exactly is “Mum guilt”, what causes it? I asked Joe, […]

Valentine’s Biscuits: Toddler Friendly Baking

As Lily and I have ventured in to the sparkly and colourful world of arts and crafts in recent months, baking has still been an absolute no go. I can throw together a few meals, but baking is a whole other thing. Every attempt I have ever made at baking has resulted in inedible rock like things, I am no Mary Berry. But when I started thinking about Valentine’s Day and some fun love themed things Lily and I could do together, I kept coming back to baking. Surely I could muster together some half decent Valentine’s biscuits? Low and […]

The Sunshine Blogger Awards

I must confess I love these question and tag posts. I love getting to know other bloggers, and I think it shakes up the usual type of day to day post! I’ve been nominated by the lovely Hayley over at Devon Mama to answer the 10 questions she came up with for The Sunshine Blogger Awards! Here goes.. How did you come up with the name of your blog? A Blonde And A Baby was one of the first names I thought of when I was trying to decide on the name of my blog. However I wasn’t sure about […]

Unplanned Does Not Mean Unwanted

You’ll hear it said that unplanned pregnancies are “accidents” perhaps even “mistakes”. The result of two people who didn’t want to fall pregnant, getting pregnant. People who are unprepared for parenthood, maybe they haven’t been together long, perhaps their finances aren’t fantastic. But I am a parent of an “unplanned” child, and an unplanned child most certainly does not mean unwanted. When I was 17 years old I met my then boyfriend, we were at college together and when it came to university even decided to go to the same one together. Things were fine for a long time but […]

Why My Blog Is Making Me A Better Mum

As I mention in my first post introducing myself, this is my third attempt at writing the A Blonde And A Baby blog. However unlike the previous attempts I am so much more committed this time, and actually I am really enjoying it. It’s slotted in to my life now and I almost can’t imagine not blogging, I think I’m hooked! Not only is it fun to write my blog, but I truly believe it is making me a better mother. Here’s why: 1. It allows me to vent. There are times when you just need to let go of all the tangled […]
